Waukazoo Family Folklore

One document at the Holland Museum has been widely cited in parts.  Etta S. Wilson was a granddaughter of Charlotte Waukazoo, a sister of Peter Waukazoo, founder of Waukazooville which was later incorporated in Northport, Michigan.  Charlotte was also known as Kin-ne-quay, and was part of the Old Wing Mission in Allegan County that migrated en masse to Leelanau County, Michigan in 1849.   She owned land in Allegan County, sold out in 1849, and bought new land in Leelanau county after the move.   The US and Michigan census records her as still living up to 1884 (at least), and by then with her son Payson in Emmet County.   Wilson's biography states Charlotte is buried in Cross Village, but the record is not clear.   I am including it under "Folklore" since some of  Wilson's statements seem more fabulous than historical.   However, Charlotte is clearly documented in other historical records.
