Message: I am seeking information on German ancestors, who arrived in Charleston (formerly known as Charles Town), South Carolina on 12/13/1764. Another source, however, listed their arrival as April, 1764, on either the ship, Dragon, or another ship, Union. My ancestors were German Palantines, Peter Knabb (aka Knapp), age 50, and his wife, Catherine (maiden name not known) Knabb (aka Knapp), age 53. They were accompanied by three children: Philip Peter, Maria (aka Martha) Elizabeth, and Margaret. Martha Elizabeth Knapp, the daughter of Philip Peter Knapp, married George Henry Cosper, the son of Heinrich Caspar (Cosper).

Henryck (aka Henrick) Gasper, born in 1733 in Germany, arrived from Germany in February, 1768. The family name later was changed to Cosper. It is believed that he came from a family of nobility. According to family legend, he was never able to claim his inheritance as he had left the country and could not prove his identity. Nothing else is known about this ancestor. I have not been able to obtain the name of his wife or their date of marriage
