"ELLGLADYA"


The stone masonary work was completed by Alexander Hogg and sons, slaters, of Panbride,
and a nephew of John Guthrie Bowman's mother Mary Ann Hogg.

John Guthrie Bowman and Margaret Jane Kinnear began the construction of their home called
"ELLGLADYA" in the year 1907. The house was named after their first two daughters Ella and Gladys.

The builders were Mssrs Robertson and McPherson.

Alexander Hogg & sons, slaters;
Thomas Gibson, plasterer;
William Mitchell & sons, plumber;
W. McCall and sons, blacksmith;
James Birrell, painter;
Kirk Coutts, ironmonger;
David Dickie, ironmonger;
Thomas Justice and sons, blinds;
A. Westwood & sons, bells;
Edward Brothers, gas fittings;
Maclaren & Sons-fees-construction superintendent.

The final cost of building Ellgladya was almost 605 pounds. The Bowmans made
two payments totalling 200 pounds (150 & 50) and were issued a bond of 400 pounds.

On September 25, 1908, David Duncan
acknowledged receipt of 50 pounds upon completion of the house.
